All The Single Ladies on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day – this is arguably the most romantic day of the year.

Unless of course, you’re single. And you can’t escape from the non-stop promotion of the day because it starts right after New Year’s Day. If this February 14th finds you single, don’t close your blinds and binge on Haagen-Dazs ice cream (really don’t, it’s delicious but full of fat and calories), celebrate with the most important person in your life: You!

Dinner and Drinks

If Cupid forgot to shoot his arrow into someone’s ass for you, then it’s up to you to treat yourself to a nice meal and fine wine. I’m not talking about going out to a fancy restaurant and having to endure all the PDA-loving couples on display but a nice home-cooked meal. Something you always wanted to try but never got around to doing. Better yet, have a nice meal delivered to your home. Don’t skimp on the appetizers or dessert. Compliment the meal with an alcoholic beverage of your choice. No compromising, it’s whatever you like.

Movie

Now that dinner is prepared and ready to eat, put on a movie and enjoy your meal. Look away from the sappy rom-com, scroll by any tear-jerkers; this day is about empowering women. So how about Hidden Figures, Wonder Woman, Mad Max, Atomic Blonde, Wild or even Kill Bill. These movies will remind you how great it is to be in control of your life, and you don’t have to worry about someone’s selfish behavior affecting you.

Dancing

Okay, now that you’ve had finished your dinner and movie – and the wine has kicked in, it’s time to get your groove on. Put on your killer heels and break out your playlist of upbeat songs. NO, sad songs, slow jams, or any song that will remind you of an ex! Crank up the tunes, work off that meal, and drop it like it’s hot!

Treat yourself

You’ve wined and dined yourself, so now the only thing missing is a gift, and you don’t even have to leave the house to treat yourself. Have you been eyeing a specific piece of jewelry, a pair of designer shoes or handbag? Now is the time to splurge on yourself. Order that high-end makeup if you think it will make you feel more confident. Go to the checkout screen and hit purchase on that dress you know you’ll look great in. I’m not saying break your budget, but a one-time mini spree is good for morale. Just make sure it’s something that will make YOU happy.

It’s easy to feel down about yourself when society is saying that you should have a romantic partner in your life. It’s hard not to feel lonely, but it’s important to remember that you have to make yourself a priority and be happy with who you are. Never let anyone other than you control your happiness. That is your job. Sure a special someone can bring added joy to your life, but you have to be happy with yourself from the start.

Take the necessary steps to invest in your happiness and experience life to the fullest. Once you do that, then, and only then will you be ready to share your life with a special someone. – Lisa P.
